Biofuels

Biofuels are one of the most traded commodities within our company. Biofuels are made of renewable biomass and serve as a sustainable alternative to transport fossil fuels. Given their high potential in reducing glasshouse gases (GHG) emissions from a cost-effective perspective, biofuels are still one of the best available solutions to fight and reduce the dependency over conventional petroleum.

At Medara, we operate in the biofuels market with a strong portfolio of products to meet our clients’ needs. From its feedstocks the final product, our vast network with major stakeholders and our mastery of the biofuels supply chain allows us to provide our customers with strategic opportunities and solutions.

First Generation Biofuels

First generation biofuels such as biodiesel are one of the most traded commodities in Medara’s business. Biodiesel is the result of the transesterification process of vegetable oils and animal fat, consisting of Fatty Acid Methyl Esters (FAME). It is a biodegradable, renewable and alternative fuel, and its properties will vary according to the feedstock from which this biodiesel derives. It is normally blended with traditional fossil fuels, but it can also be used in its pure form. Our first generation biodiesel portfolio is comprised of a variety of products suitable to meet your specifications.

Second Generation Biofuels

Another strength in Medara’s trading portfolio is our knowledge of the second generation biofuels market. The production of these biofuels includes a wide range of feedstocks, typically non-edible biomass such as agricultural residues, animal wastes, and used cooking oil. The biodiesel produced with these carbon neutral feedstocks has a huge potential in reducing CO2 emissions.

Advanced Biofuels

At Medara we are proud to consider ourselves specialized in the trading of advanced biodiesel. Advanced biofuels are generally produced from lignocellulosic feedstocks (e.g., bagasse, corn stover, wheat straw), industrial waste and residue streams, and non-food crops (e.g., algae, grasses). Such biofuels have very low-ILUC (Indirect Land Use Change) risk given their high glasshouse gas emission reduction and extremely low CO2 emission characteristics. Our experts’ team is ready to deliver the best opportunities in the advanced biodiesel market for your business.

Feedstock

Due to our strong connections among major players throughout biodiesel’s supply chain, we can provide clients with a wide array of biomass feedstocks required to produce biofuels and other bioproducts. Our traded feedstock list includes vegetable oils, animal fats, used cooking oils, oil fatty acids and acid oils. The search for renewable sources of energy leads to a rising demand for low-carbon feedstocks in order to produce valuable biofuel. Medara is strategically placed to assist your business with its feedstock procurement demands.
